… and is it a tenable solution?
Now everyone who plays Lion’s regularly has an opinion about our situation, and most people have the same opinion, but I played last week with someone who said he had some information. First, I want to premise this by saying the guy we were playing with seemed like a bit of a talker, but he seemed to know the marshals pretty well, so maybe he knows a guy. Anyway, he had a real whopper he laid on us. So, according to this guy there is already a plan in motion.
The plan we heard about was as follows:
Tom Kite obtains Lion’s, through some means. (This was not really explained… but I don’t doubt that it’s possible)
Kite then redesigns the course, puts some work into it, and turns it into some kind of club. (Assuming the club is public, which is probably unlikely if you ask me, then it would be priced somewhere on the high end of Austin courses)
Finally, the land would be returned to the University of Texas upon Kite’s death.
Now, all of this is pure speculation from some guy I played with a while ago, but even if it were true, does it make our situation any better for the average Lion’s golfer. If the course is private, we can’t play. If the course costs Terra Vista money or more to play, it will be two rounds a year for me (if that). Also, if the land is returned to the university, rather than the city, we are all in the same situation sooner or later. So, even if it is a solution… is it a solution?
